MOTOR REGULATIONS. WELLINGTON, Nov. 23.
The North Island motor delegation had a discussion on the new regulations, lasting till one a.m. and voted in favour of numerous amendments, especially that fines should vaiy according to the gravity of the oflenee, and he paid into the main highways account; anil finally that the regulations should not be enforced till suitable regulations were also applied to pedestrians.
BUSHMAN IXJUIiED. BLENHEIM. Nov. 23
A serious accident occurred in the Tinline Valley in the Pelorous Sound district when a bushman named Theodore Johansen E'ggers, aged 51, married, with five children, was crushed bv a large tree, which he and another man were jacking off a hillside. Egger’s jack slipped and the log shot down the hill, crushing him in its fall.
Two hours were occupied in bringing the injured man into tbe mill and a further lengthy journey was necessitated by his removal to Rai Valley, where he was seen to by a doctor who ordered him to the hospital at Blenheim. It is understood he is suffering from a fractured pelvis and internal injuries. His condition is critical.
HOUSE BURNT. DARGAVILLE, Nov. 23
At 2.30 o’clock this morning a large house, owned by Walter Faithful, sour, was, with its contents, totally destroyed by fire, nothing being saved. The only occupant at the time of the outbreak was Mrs Faithful, who is old and in bad health. Her son had great difficulty in rescuing his aged mother from the burning building. The insurance is not available.
MASONIC. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. The inability of the Governor-Gen-eral to attend the Grand Lodge communication of New /cabin'd Freemasons has disturbed the arrangements only so far as his installation is concerned. The Pro-Grand Master (M. AY. Brother Russell) will preside over the business meeting convene 1 for AVednesdny, November 30th, which will he continued during the afternoon when it is expected all remits will be dealt with, failing which the business will be resumed on Thursday morning.
On AVednosday evening the investiture of Grand Lodge officers will take [dace in the Caledonian Hall.
CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. A unanimous decision regarding tho case of A. .M. Richards, a student of the Church who has conscientious objections to military service, was reached at last night’s session of the Presbyterian General Assembly. On behalf of the special committee Dr Gibb moved:—“ln view of the ease of A. M. Richards, the General Assembly while affirming the duty of a Christian in relation to the State, (1) Declares in harmony with historicposition of this Church its conviction of the inviolability of rights of the individual conscience, (2) Considering that a Christian in the intonpretation of jliis duty to Christ may feel obliged to refuse to rentlei military service, (3) Claims for members of this Church who hold conscientious objections to military training on religions grounds, rights ol exemption provided by the 1912 amendment of the Dcteime Act, 1903Rev. W. McLean seconded the motion which was cairied without dicuss ion.
FUNERAL OF JUDGE ALPF.RS. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. Tho funeral of the late Judge Alpers took place to-day and was very largely attended. The body bad been brought down from Wellington am rested in Canterbury College Hall until 10 a.m., when the cortege proceeded to Waimairi Cemetery, where the Rev. H. S. Leach conducted the service It was one of the longest funerals seen here for many years. Many wreaths came from the Noitli TSI,I 'SCALDED IN HOT POOL. ROTORUA, Nov. 23.
Mistress W. Thompson who on November 14th while bathing at night m tho Kurau Reserve stepped into «*» overheated pool and was badly scalded and taken to the hospital is in a critical condition. FOUND DEAD. WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. B .T Dolan, barrister and solicitor,’ wns found dead this morning. An inquest will die held this afternoon.
