The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. INIVARI) CORRESPONDENCE, From Eric Janies forwarding leaflet in regard to the Haast Pass trip to Westland.—Received with thanks. From Marlborough Progress League forwarding particulars of monthly meeting.—Received. Mr Duff said from enquiries made he gleaned the new road through to Blenheim would not he open till the new year was advanced.—Received.
From Mrs AY. J. Jcnldn, Christchurch, expressing thanks for sympathy extended in bereavement. —Received.
From Miss Farney, Oamaru, making enquiries regarding walking tour. South Westland.—Received and information supplied. From Lindsay Russell, Christchurch, with regard to screen advertising and quoting for Wellington theatres. Received., and Wellington offer accepted and authorised as additional to the Christchurch -dvortising. From Canterbury Progress League forwarding copy of business transacted.—Received.
From Mayor of Greymoufh asking co-operation with regard to the public celebrations to be held in beb-ruary-Alarcli.—Received. and resolved to co-operate in any movement initialed by the Mayor.
From'New Zealand Railways particulars of time-table alterations in AVestland train services.—Received, regret was expressed that greater consideration had not been given to the representations opposing the changes here.
From South Island Motor I nion urging necessity of enforcing third party policies for the security of the public. Received and supported. GENERAL.
A small account was passed for payment. The .Secretary reported regarding the petition for the continuous telephone service. Some twenty signatures were required on account ot business premises, and some thirty on account of residential, but in respect to the latter the rural residents had not been consulted yet. It was decided Dr Teielielmann and Mr Morris wait, on the rural residents, chiefly at the Kokntahi, and Messrs Meifntosh and Evans on the business and residentials in town. The hope was expressed that the system would lie inaugurated before the holiday period, during which the Exchange was conducted on such short and inconvenient hours. The meeting concluded at 8.20 p.m.
