MELBOURNE, Nov. 17. In the cycling race from Bendigo to Warrnanfbool, over 192 miles, the New Zealand teams retains the lead. Forty-three riders continue. Opperman was defeated to-day for the sprint prizes from Ballarat to - Castlemaine, by Jeliir, of Geelong, who led at Castlemaine. Watson (N.Z.) punctured at fifty miles, but Rennie was well up in the early stages. Ballarat (78 miles), Bainbridge (Victoria) was first.! and Watson eighth. Twenty-one miles further on Watson had reached third place. At 129 miles the order was: Opperman. Watson, Bainbridge, Osborne, a close together. . A heavy head wind is delaying the J 'riders. The finish is expected at 7 o’clock to-night. The leaders are feeling the effects of the contest. Choir progress is slow. Received this day at 9.0 a.mA ' MELBOURNE, Nov. 18. l There was an exciting finish. Opperman 13hr. 32min. loscc. L (New Zealand) 13-32-15 1-5, 2; Osborne 13-32-151-5 3; Bainbridge 13-32-15 2-5 4; Einsidel 13-03-4 i 5. Followed by Anderson, Stamford, Boyd and Williamson with Rennie (New Zealand) 13-53-47 3-5 10th.. In n marvellous sprint in the last 180 yards Opperman won by half a lengt 1. a son beat Osborne by half-n-wheel. The race took 142 minutes behind schedule. The New Zealanders are certain winners of the teams race. It is anticipated some riders will not arrive till midnight.
