STERLING EXCHANGE. (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 16. Sterling has reached 487 3-lGtlis. the highest since 1914. Financial circles regard the rise partly due to the Commerce Department's recent calculation on the tinted States visible and invisible International payments in 1926, which made tho year’s net credit- to the United / States on all accounts, except flow "capital only thirteen million dollars. Though this is regarded as more than offset by 522 million dollars of the next export investment capital from America. Authorities declare that despite the latest rise, sterling is still far from the point where it would pay America to ship gold in preference to purchasing sterling Bills.
AMERICAN SHIPPING. WASHINGTON. Nov. IC. The United States Shipping Board announces that American vessels carried less than one third of American, trade during 1920. A survey showed that 5701 battle ships, aggregating 20,330,000 tons, handled the nation’s foreign trade of which 10/8 ships, totalling 7,330.000 tons were American owned'. The United States Shipping Bill of 1920 amounted to more than 728,000,000 dollars. Foreign shippers received over -180,000,000 dollars for carrying United States trade. STOCK EXCHANGE RECORD.
