MINISTERIAL REPLY
PROPOSED RAILWAY EXTENSION SOUTHWARD FROM ROSS.
The Minister of Public Works has written to Air Seddon, ALP., as follows with respect to the extension of the railway beyond Ross:— Dear Sir, —“In reference to yours of the 18th ultimo, I have to advise you that the monies which are at present available to me are barely sufficient to carry on tlie works which are at present in progress. “Moreover, in view of the recent agitation by tlie sawmillers for increased duties to enable them to carry on the industry and the statements made that there are too many millers at present operating to enable the business to be carried on profitably, I feel that the present is not an opportune, time to urge the prosecution of this railway.
