WEST COAST TOUR

DUNEDIN, Nov. 13 A correspondent writes:

A big tour has been definitely arranged to commence from Lake Wanaka on Xmas Day which Fill include the remote and little-known regions in the southernmost part of Westland. The party includes Messrs Tait M.A., Young, Black and Twigg from Dunedin, and possibly one or two gentlemen from both Christchurch and Wellington. Mr Eric James is in charge of provision and equipment arrangements and will pilot the party throughout the journey.

Stores are to he landed at Okuru and Big Bay by steamer. The trip is causing much interest in Dunedin, it being the first of its kind to penetrate this remote locality. All members of the party are experienced explorers, and have previously explored some remote regions in Fiordland. A journalist will he included in the party.

The party will return from Martin’s Bay by way of the Holly ford River. Homer Saddle, Lakes Howden and Wakatipu to Pembroke via the Crown Range.

A lecture was given by a West Coast visitor in the Scout Hall to members of the senior scouts and others, the subject being: “The Unknown A Vest Coast.” The address which lasted two hours discussed the mountains and wonderful scenic attractions, the undeveloped resources, and bird-life. Afr Afoore thanked the visitor on behalf of the meeting for having come along and described from first-hand observations the many and varied attractions to he found in that interesting and little known part of their own wonderful country.

A party of senior scouts under a scoutmaster are now awaiting sanction from the Public AVorks Department to put in 8 to 10 days clearing and repairing the Ilaast Pass Track gratis, during tho approaching holidays. Already 16 strong young lads in tlie advanced teens have their names in for lliis proposed trip. CANTERBURY AIOVEAIENT. BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 16. A large, representative Progress League and Government party being organised to make a round tour from Hokitika to Waunka in February will form the main discussion at the next League meeting. There is considerable enthusiasm. A joint conference at Dunedin follows. The tour aims at a round motor road.
