ARBITRATION BILL

WELLINGTON, Nov. 15. The Labour Bills Committee con<•l tided taking evidence concerning the Arbitration Bill to-day. Air Nash, Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, said that from the period IS9O-99, to 1925-26, the returns from dairy products had doubled in price. Prices for cheese had gone up 111 per cent., and butter 98 per cent. Comparing 1913-14 prices with 1925-26, blitter was up 52 per cent., and clice.se 45. From the period 1890-99 to 1925-26 wages had halved. AVhat lie meant was that for every pound realised by the dairy products from 1890 to 1899, dairy workers got two shillings. Today they got lid. The Minister remarked that the figures were not worth the paper they were written on.

Mr Nash proceeded that during the war years employees did not get highe: wages in proportion to higher prices Now prices were lower it was the desire of the factories to fix wages in accordance with world’s parity. The Committee will meet later in the week to consider its report.
