(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. ROWLEY DISQUALIFICATION CASE STATEMENT BY MR DONNELLY. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 15. Referring to the Rowley disqualification ease, Mr A. T. Donnelly, one of the Racing Conferences Judges, which upheld the appeals of trainer and jockey, writes to the press replying to Mr George Gould (Chairman of Canterbury Jockey Club). Air Donnelly says the advantage of a Judicial Committee approaching its cases in a logical and orderly fashion can easily be demonstrated. Gould was Chairman of the Judicial Committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club, which on Monday, Nov. 7th, unanimously convicted the owner of corrupt practice. Gould was chairman also of the District Committee, which on the following day. Nov. Bth, on the same offence unanimously acquitted the owner of Rowley of the same offence by allowing bis appeal against his conviction the day before. A member of the District Committtee gave evidence as a witness before the Judicial Committee on Nov". 71li that lit* saw the finish of the race, but stated that he was unable to say what horse was " pulled,” or that it was not ridden to win. This member of the District Committee was a party to its unanimous decision in convicting the jockey and trainer of the offences charged against each of them. Racing inquiries throughout the countries have generally been conducted in the past on the broad principles which govern proceedings in courts of law. No departure from these principles T hope and feel sure will ever he sanctioned by a decision of the judges of the conference.
OILFIELDS REPORT. GISBORNE, Nov. 15. The Taranaki Oil Fields report states Waiapu No. 2 well is clown to a depth of 2540 feet in grey shale; 8J inch diameter easing to 251(1 feet. Gisborne No. I well depth 1 ISO feet in blue sandy shale; 10 inches diameter easing to 1100 feet. CHARGE DISMISSED. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 15. James Alexander Jackson, secretary of a lodge, was charged to-day with having commenced a Christmas hamper competition, whereby prizes would be disposed by a mode of chance. TTo pleaded not guilty, counsel stating defendant bad not commenced Hie scheme. The Magistrate dismissed the charge, saving it was a straight out criminal charge and he would require to be satisfied of the guilt. TRIBUTE TO MAGISTRATE. AUCKLAND, Nov. 15. A large gathering of the Bench, legal profession, Justices of the Peace, and Magistrate's Court, presided over by the Senior Magistrate, (Air Cutten), paid a tribute to the memory of the late Air AY. Poynton, S.AL, and expressed regret at the deatli of an excellent colleague. They bore testimony to bis conscientious discharge of bis duty throughout a long illness.
COAIAHTTED FOR TRIAL. TIC AWAAIUTU, Nov. 15
Before Justices this morning Frederick Kefton, relieving railway cadet, pleaded not guilty to three charges of forgery of receipts for board, one at Mataroa last December, and two at To Awumutu last June. He reserved bis defence and was committed for trial to the Supreme Court.
