PETROL TAX ALLOCATION.
WELLINGTON, Nov. 15. When the petrol tax allocation was first announced, the City Council expected to get £IO,OOO which was immediately ear-marked to pay interest or paying loans. They were.then dismayed to find the city is to be asked to give up the special Hutt Hoad tax and take over that part of the road within the city area, which instead- of an increase of £IO,OOO in revenue would mean an actual loss of more than £IO,OOO per year. Strong hostility was expressed to this remarkable financing, and the Mayor""now states the Government has promised it hall 1m? altered and the city shall receive the £IO,OOO clear of drawback.
