WARATiAIIS DEFEAT .IRELAND. LONDON. Nov. 12. The Warn tabs defeated Ireland by 5 points to 3. The Waratah team against Ireland was as follows : Ross, Bowers. Towers. AA’nllace, E. Ford, Lawton, Meagher. Hreekenridge, J. Ford, A. Tnncred. Finlay, Storey, Woods, Blackwood, Judd. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON. Nov. 13. Although the Australians only won the first International match against Dublin hy a narrow margin, they were unquestionably of good value, lor the victory was a hard game played in brilliant sunshine and perfect turf, hut while the Australian hacks brought off several rounds of passing, they found the Irish tackling most efficient.. The secret of The AA’avatnlis success was the splendid efficiency of their forwards, who held their opponents in eight scrums and certainly stemmed considerably the traditional terrors of the Irish rushes. .T. Ford. Breekencridge, Tnncred and Findlay wore conspicuous in the front while Blackwood surpassed his Irish vis-a-vis for hooking. Meagher fed his hacks repeatedly. Lawton was too often tackled in possession. Ross might profitably have clone more touch-finding. Bowers again made many blunders in taking passes, hut it was from the rapid combination between him and Towers that Wnllace scored the Australians try and Lawton converted a quarter of ail hour before the interval, when the visitors led hy five points. Ireland got a penalty, through Gandy, just after crossing over and were certainly more dangerous in fflic second hall. Although their hacks rarely got into combined moves, but Browne. Farrell brothers. [McYiekers and Buchanan were the best of the pack which was much below the Irish International standard.
Probably the strength of the Australian forwards was largely responsible. therefore. Davey, fly half played a great game defending finely while once Tn Hie first half, ho had the had luck to hit, the cross bar when dropping for a goal. There was much scrambling play, hut on the balance the visitors were worth the win.
