POISON MYSTERY

A poison tragedy, with which is connected some very mysterious tentnres, occurred at Knramu, a tanning district eighteen miles south-west ol Hamilton, on Sunday afternoon. Two farmers, Air Allan lornnll. thirty-one, and Air .lames Clieyne, forty-one, consumed some liquor, with the result that Alt' Cornall was fatally'poisoned and All' Clieyne is now unconscious and in a critical condition. Messrs Cornall and Choyne. who with their families, lived in AH' Cheyne’s house at Karamti. had been to a dance which they usually attend at To Palm on Eriday -evening. On returning borne in their car they found what- appeared to be a sealed bottle of beer- in the vehicle. The night was wet, and they assumed that during the dance some of the men attending the entertainment had taken shelter in the car and had unintentionally left tire bottle there. ATessrs Cornall <and Clieyne decided on Sunday afternoon to drink the liquor. At two o’clock they opened the bottle and each consumed a glass. Both immediately suffered great pain and developed symptoms of poisoning. Afrs Cornall ran to a * neighbour's house for help. Air and Airs Arthur Smith arrived quickly and did all they could for the sufferers. Dr E. AL Spencer and Constables Kirby and Neil, of Hamilton, were also summoned. Air Cornall died rat live o'clock, after suffering great agony. Air Clieyne is in a critical condition. and is not expected to recover. He has been removed to the AA aikato Hospital. Air Cornall leaves three children. Ah- Clieyne is married and has live children. Later. The condition of -lames Clieyne. the second victim of the Knramu poisoning tragedy, is stated to be slightK improved, though still critical.
