\ civic reception was tendered to the returned cricketers to-day. Apologies for absence were received from Air Coates, also Air F. Earle (President. New Zealand Cricket Association). The Mayor (AD Troup) spoke on liehalf of the citizens of New Zealand. In saying “Well done,” lie expressed particular pleasure at the modest bearing of the men we had sent Home. They wore a team of gentlemen. The Government entertained the team at luncheon in Parliament Buildin.as. At the Government luncheon to the cricketers. Air Coates stated that the Government had gone carefully into the financial side of the tour, and decided. in view of the action of the sportsmen who had made the tour possible, and also becaue the team had done so well on and off the field, the country should make a contribution of £IOOO towards the cost. (Applause). DACRE NOT PLAYING. WELLINGTON. November 8. C. C. Dacre will not he a member of the New Zealand team in the match against The Rest of New Zealand. on Friday. Acting on medical advice, he is leaving for Auckland tonight. DACRK’S INTENTIONS. AUCKLAND. Nov. 9. Dacre states he will probably accept the offer of engagement by the Gloucestershire Countv Cricket Club, in which case he will probably leave New Zealand in February, to fulfil it.
