In connection with Earle Nelson who was sentenced to death at Winnipeg. the police believe they have ended the career of the so-called “darkstrangler” one of the most ruthless criminals in history. During 1926, the Killer’s reign of terror extended through a dozen Pacific Coast cities. Early this year ho turned cross-con-tinent, eastwards. He was an adapt at disguises, aged 9,7 years and usually carried a suitcase with two changes ol clothing.
During the last year it was definitely traced that lm killed 16 women aged from 1 I to 69. never robbing them, lmt iiivarialily leaving behind evidence of his gor ilia clutch. This year he killed live, including three near Winnipeg.
Evidence showed lie killed Lola Cowan early in the forenoon, walked out of the city, begged a ride from a passing motor. The tyre hurst op1, osite a farm house and while the motorist mended it, Nelson walked leisurely in, found the farmer's wife alone, strangled her. threw the body under a lied, helped himself to dinner, and walked unconcerned hack to the motor car.
Nelson was married and was employed as a machinist. He had Iseon in an insane asylum, hut escaped, lie was kind to his wife who had no suspicion of his fearful deeds.
