i ADDINGTON STOCK SALES, CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3. As there will lie no sale at Addington next week, the market yesterday was a double one. In all the fat sections there were particularly heavy entries of .stock, the supply generally being in excess of (lie requirements, even of a double market. This was noticeably so in the case of spring lambs. About 1000 head came forward, which was far more than butchers required. The result was a marked easing in prices. Towards the end of the land) market the auctioneers had very hard work to lvjake sales, and passings at this stage were frequent. The entry of . fat cattle must have constituted a re- ' cord for the yards. It was only 30 j short of 800 head. The supply was in ; excess of requirements, especially with I the heavy entries of lamb and mutton. | and prices declined on late rates by £1 to £2 a head. The fat sheep forward filled about sixteen races, and the overflow was accommodated in the fat lamb pens. In spite of the large entry of fat sheep, the sale was a good one. especially for prime sorts. Tt finished firmly. The entry of store sheep was larger than has Ik-cii the case at recent sales, but with the improved feed prospects in the country, the demand was keen, especially for forward wethers, which showed a marked improvement in prices. Store owes and lambs were little dearer than they were last week. The offering of store cattle was small, and it was made up almost entirely of cows and bulls, which sold well at late rates. 'Hie dairy cattle sale opened with a dull demand, but improved towards the end. However, most of the dairies wore inferior sorts. Venters fat for killing sold about as well as last week. Bat-oners were on a par with late rates, while porkers were, if anything, a little firmer. There was a very keen inquiry for all classes of store pigs, and a large entry changed handat satisfactory prices.
Eat cattle—Prime handy weights sold comparatively well, but generally prices wore down on late rates by Cl to ,£2 a head.
