At the Criminal Sessions of the Supreme Court to-day, John Thomas Tilson, farmer, of Hinds, was found guilty of negligently driving a motor ear, thereby causing the death of a lad of 17 years. The jury recommended him to mercy because deceased had no light on his bicycle, and because accused rendered every possible assistance after the accident. Leonard St. Clair Thompson, late manager of the Grosvcnor Hotel, was found guilty of the theft of clothing, furniture, crockery, and cash, of a total value of LM22, from the hotel. Both accused were remanded til. Thursday for sentence. PR ISONE RS S ENTENTEI). DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened to-day with three eases on the list. Leslie Daniel Scollar. 17 years ol age, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault, and was ordered to he detained in the Borstal Institute nt Invercargill for two years. George Ellis, 50 years of age. pleaded guilty to the theft of postal packets, and was ordered to he detained lot reformative purposes for two years. Walter Miller, (>7 years of ago. for interfering with young girls in n theatre, was found guilty, and ordered to he detained for reformative purposes for two years.
AUCKLAND, Nov. 2. At the Supreme Court Judge Reed sentenced Arthur Herbert Eden, 42, on a charge of committing rape and assault on a young woman of 19, to five years’ hard labour. 11 is Honour said the police report and evidence satisfied him that prisoner was one of the mu' dangerous types of sexual maniacs.
