FILMS iiEINli PREPARED. WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. A picture u week is now the average of the Xew Zealand Government Publicity Office in its efforts to advertise the Dominion beyond the .seas. Maori life and customs are about to receive the serious attention oT the Cinematograph Branch of the service, and Mr A. IE Messenger, Officer in Charge of Publicity NVork, has just leTt for Rotorua, taking with hint a scenario writer to prepare a series of films dealing with the natives. One, at least of these will he. a feature film, and the cameramen will go up to eom--1 memo shooting next month. Besides this, the office lias an extensive programc before it. Wanganui River is to be filmed in January and will form the subject of a special effort, hut before this much is to he done, ff the weather permits. Christchurch will lx 1 taken from the air during next month. Hawke’s Bay saw the cameramen a week or two ago. They went up in search of blossoming orchards, hut as the blossom, did not lend itself to the screen they were dispatched to .Kelson, where orchards in Moss nil nrmuv being filmed, and Hawke’s Bay aill ho done towards Christmas. Another attempt to film Dunedin has failed. owing io had weather conditions. Ibis is the second to break down, the first effort being one to film (he capping celebrations !:i.-t year. Camera men visited Dunedin Ibis month, hut had to leave without good pictures. \nuther trial will he made itt the summer.
Xoxt week special films of the flax industry and of tlie New Xoaland railway service are to be made. Follotvina; these, pictures will be devoted to the honey industry, shearing, and sheepfanninw. and to AVsiiknromonim from a scenic as well as a hydro-elec-tric point of view. Those will all tie tinisned by the end • f next month. Recent films include Tonjiariro National Park. Mount Cook winter sports. Wairakci. Hamilton, Queenstown. the Stewart Island oyster trade, the Most (‘oast, and as far down as the Franz Josef Glacier.
