(By Telegraph—l’er Press Association. THE HOUSE. PETROL TAX OF 4n. A GALLON. WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. Tlie House met at 7.30 p.m. By Governor-General’s message the following bills were introduced and read a first time:—Alines Amendment Bill; Seeds Importation Bill; Slaughtering and Inspection Bill; “Washing-Up” Bill ; Legislature Act Consolidation Bill. By resolution, an amendment to the Customs Act was brought down imposing a tax on motor spirits of 4d per gallon, which was estimated to produce £710,000 per annum, which was to be devoted to road construction and maintenance. The present licensing fees and tyre tax are to remain.
Launches, dry cleaning and stationary engines are to he exempt, the exemption to take the form of a rebate. The resolution was agreed to at 2.39 a.m. when the House rose till 2.30 p.m.
