RIFLE SHOOTING.
HOKITIKA GUN CLUB
The Hokitika Gun Club held a shoot at the Club’s grounds yesterday. The conditions were:—7-bird rise on Kith Oct., and 11-bird rise on 30th Oct., total 21 birds. First prize a valuable B.S.A. D.8.8.L. liainmerles.s gun, second a. handsome brief bag, third a handsome bedroom clock. Results of the two days shoots are as follows: C. J. King and F. B. Lewis tied with 18 birds each. On the shoot off C. J. King won on the 20th bird. F. B. Lewis took second prize, with 19 breaks. P. D. Dougherty and H. T. Parry tied for third prize with 16 each. On the shoot off P. D. Dougherty won on the 18tli break. Other scores were : J.' Haile, J. J. .Mclntosh, junr. 16 each; A. H. King 13, E. J. Lloyd 14, J. McCormick, J. J. Mclntosh, sour. 13 each, G. Kelly 12. W. Berry 10. At the conclusion of the shoot Mr .T. J. Mclntosh, senr. presented the trophies to the winners. He congratulated Mr C. J. King on bis creditable performance. He also congratulated the second and third prize winners, and hoped that each shooter would be competing at the traps in the near future. He also remarked that the winners score showed that only once out of the 20 birds did lie use the second barrel. The winners suitably replied.
CLAY BIRD CHAMP JIONSHIP. ASHBURTON, Oct. 29. Seventen competitors took part in tlie Canterbury clay bird championship to-day. IT. Gennell (Lyttelton) retained the title, after an interesting shoot and shoot-off with R. Mellwriek (Pleasan Point). In the £2 match, E. A. Wasliborne, F. J. Corbett, F. C. Reilil and T. H. Harrison divided the stake. Reihl is an ex-world’s champion.
