Downio Stewart sets out the details very clearly and the final paragraph of lii.s letter is one which affords much hope as to a reasonable interpretation of the position as it relates to the furlherance of mining, lie states definitely that “it is expeeied when the Tariff is ill operation it will be found that its administration will lie satisfactory to the mining interests.’’ It will he very satisfactory to those concerned in mining interests if this proves to be the ease. The industry as operating here .is a material aid to employment and production. But for the excellent organisation responsible for the efficient system of dredging, there would not he the production and range of employment- which is possible. It is therefore a ease for element consideration as the industry itself is no mean factor in contributing to the prosperity and stability of the district, The people at largo may well he grateful for what lias been done, and it is satisfactory indeed to lind that Mr Seddon. by his representations was able to draw from the responsible minister so satisfying n reply on the material question at Issue,
