MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THURSDAY, OCT. 27th. (Before W. Meldrum, Esq., 5.. M.) LICENSING ACT. Charged with being found on licensed promises (Masonic Hotel) during prohibited hours two men were convicted. One was ordered to pay costs 10s and the other 20s and costs 10s. On a similar charge at the same hotel, another local resident was fined 20s and costs. Another offender (Central Hotel) was ordered to pay costs 225. TRESPASS. The police charged Open Masone (Mr Park) with allowing three cattle to trespass on the railway line at Arahura. Fined 5s and costs 20s. A similar charge was dismissed, being laid too late. MAINTENANCE DEFAULT. Henry Reid charged with failure to pay a maintenance order, arrears amounting to £ls 17x (Id, did not appear. An order was made for payment within seven days, in default 28 days’ imprisonment, costs £1 Is also bein'? allowed Mr Park, counsel for complainant. DEBT CASES. Tlios. Stopforth (Mr Park) v. E. IT. McGuigan, claim £2 Is Gd. Judgment for plaintiff with costs 24s Gd. W. C. Barrett (Mr Park) v. A. .T. YVillmot. Judgment summons £3 ISs Gd. Order made for payment forthwith in default 7 days. Moss Advt. Coy. Ltd. (Mr Elcock) v. A. J. Willmot, judgment summons £6 13s 6d. Order made for payment forthwith with costs 15s 6d. in default 14 days.
Mrs S. J. Larsen, South Beach, rereceived cable advice yesterday of the death of her youngest brother, Constable Alexander MeClintock, at Omah, Ireland.
The condition of Noel Smith, the youth who was admitted to the Grey River Hospital on Sunday with a. bullet wound in his head, is reported to have slightly improved, though still considered serious.
The death occurred yesterday at the Grey River Hospital of Mr David Shand. a well-known and respected resident of Taylorville. The deceased leaves a widow and family, who will have the sympathy of numerous friends in their bereavement. The luneral takes place to-morrow.
The next great event of the season is the concert by tbe scholars of the Kanieri Public School. The Kanieri Cricketers and also tbe Kanieri Darky -Minstrels are giving items. All are invited to come along and see Handy Andy and Old Grimes acting their piece called “ Tbe Troublesome Servants.” Everybody is assured a good night’s fun.
Tbe concert given by tbe Convent Pupils recently, and which delighted tbe large audience present will be repeated at tbe Princess Theatre on Thursday, December loth. The people present at the initial performance will have a pleasurable recollection of the excellent programme given and will be more than delighted to think that it is going to be repeated. The programme will be somewhat varied, so patrons arc assured a very fine evening’s entertainment.
