A strong northerly wind on Saturday night necessitated the postponement of the evening athletic meeting. The weather changed suddenly on Sunday and in the afternoon developed into a strong southerly wind with cold heavy showers.

A launch got into difficulties in the heavy seas of the. harbour yesterday, ■mil drifted about helpless for several hours, it contained a party who had been fishing off Xgaliauranga in the morning. When caught, by the heavy weather the craft was carried across towards Somes Island, the engine refusing to start. The vessel finally reached shallow water, near Petono. and anchored till the sea moderated sufficiently to allow it to he beached. One of the party. John Johnson, aged 19, single, had his arm fractured while the launch was Iwing buffeted. The Union Steam Ship Coy’s launch and pilot launch in the meantime searched for Die craft but misty ram prevented them sighting the disabled launch. Several yachts also had a struggle to get hack to their moorings yesterday. The weather is continuing in milder form to-day and will seriously affect the sports and racing. Cricket fixtures were postponed till later in the season. The sky cleared temporarily this afternoon and the wind is dropping.
