At a meeting of shareholders, authority was gvien to the Victorian Publishing Coy. to complete the sale of the newpaper “Morning Post ” to the '•Sun’’ News Pictorial. It is stated the “ Post ” will be incorporated with the '' Sun.'’ It is understood the " Son ” pays £31.000 for all assets except book debts. Losses on the " Post ” during two years publication amount to £130,000. RAILWAY KIN A NOE. ADELAIDE. Oct. 22. A committee was set up by the Government to investigate the State linniices. In the first report, dealing with tin' railways, the report says the scheme of the previous government, equipping the service with new locomotives and rolling stock, was too large. Nearly two million sterling were spent without Parliament's authority. The passenger service of both the metropolitan and (ountry districts, and the main country districts were maintained at a heavy and increasing loss. The Chief Commissioner brought from America in 1923 to reorganise the services. estimated the expenditure necessary for five years would be four and , a half million sterling. However nine and a-liall million were -pent to June, 1927. The Committee recommended an increase in fares and freights to bring in additional revenue of £IOO,OOO and substantial reductions in non-paying passenger services. THREE MEN KILLED. SYDNEY. Oct. 21. A motor truck conveying machinery to 1 relaga, near Wentworth, capsized upon three men accompanying it. Burgess. Ta.vlor and Bailey were all killed. The driver was pinned under the lorry and cut nut alive. PROPOSALS SUPPRESSED. SYDNEY. Oct. £2. Premier Bavin states the Railway Commissiuners in June last in a letter to the Works Department outlined a scheme for an increase in passengers fares and freights to cover costs amounting to £1.725.C1'0. This letter says Mr Bavin was evidently suppressed, owing to tin* elfect d would, have had on public mind. The Commissioners proposals included an increase of six per cent on all country fares, and seven per cent on second olas.s suburban fares. An increase of ten per cent on most class of goods and traffic. There is nlxn tin increase in the tramway fare by a penny on two. three and lour sections.
