Captain Kingstonl Smith announces Rat he expects to hop off on Not ember 4 -on his flight across the Pacific to Australia.
It, is understood that the aeroplane Southern Cross will lie taken up shoitlv in a- series of test flights, with a full load, from Ensenada. Beach, Lower California, provided that authorisation from tlie .Mexican Government, is secured. No difficulties in this respect are anticipated. The final improvements are being made to the huge Fokkor machine, which will he taken to Mexican leiritory during the next, week. After Hie tests, it will return for the start for Australia, which most likely will be made from the Oakland municipal airport, on Bay Farm Island. The tests at Ensenada will be even more thorough than actual necessity demands. as the pilots and navigators wish to get as much time in the air as possible, to familiarise themselves thoroughly with all the instruments and to lie able to cope with any situation or any weather conditions.
AIR AYRECK IN CANADA
VANCOUVER. Oct. 22. A message from Quebec states that the wreckage of a hydroplane, in which Count de R s-ep, and a mechanic started a flight on Tnevlav from Oaspe Bay to \ albrilliaiit, v.-as found on the St Lawrence River. There was no trace of the aviators. Count de Lesxops v.a- the “-core! man to fly across the English Channel, and was one of Canada s foremost aviators.
