EVIDENCE OF PLAN! EES. APIA, Oct. 22. Before the Royal Commission Philip Brewster, a plantation manager, deposed that Air Williams, a Legislative Councillor, told him that they must get tlie natives into the Legislative Council and the political movement. as “without them we can do nothing. We must get, rid of that man,” meaning Sir George Richardson, the Administrator. Alan Coberoft. a planter, said that Air 0. F. Nelson had stated that the Government used the natives as a lever to bring in prohibition, and asked: “AVliy shouldn’t v.e use them?” Witness dissented from this view. James William llutehen, secretary to the Administration, gave- evidence as to the copra, purchase scheme. 'Tlie Adminisrat ion quoted the latest figures I rout London, showing that the price realised there was np-pnvi.-My higher than the average, and the High Commissioner recommended Portlier shipments.
