HEARING YOUR FACE.

LONDON, Aug. 28. Scientists will be able to hear the sound of their own faces on a new machine which will be publicly demonstrated by its inventor, Mr J. L. Baird, the television expert, during the visit of the British Association to Leeds this week and next. The machine which is called the phonovisor is in appearance something like a phonograph. It transforms the face into sound and records it. This can then be placed on the transmitter. The sound of tile face is a humming or gargling which changes when the face is moved. An outstanding feature of this year’s British Association meetings is the number of women scientists who are taking part. More papers will he read by women than ever before in the association’s history, and the matters treated will include such subjects as agriculture, anthropology, economics, and geography. The Duchess of Atholl will preside over the education section. The other twelve sections will have men presidents.
