In the first few rounds the New Zealander scored well with heavy body punches. In the second he opened Harms’ eye with a. hard right and almost outed him with a similar punch to the jaw in the third. A fierce rally opened the fourth and the New Zealander was cautioned for a low punch but the aggressive tactics of McDonald put him ahead. The Donninionites punching in the next two rounds gave him a good lead but he tired rapidly over the seventh and •eight and Harms scored repeatedly. After a series of rallies the New Zealander evened matters during the ninth, making Harms miss badly. The latter’s cautious boxing in the tenth prevnted the New Zealander scoring but in the twelfth McDonald attacked and almost had his opponent outed with a heavy right to the head and body, the gong saving the South African. McDonald then tired rapidly over the last three rounds but made n good rally in the final round. Although against the opinion which greatly favoured the New Zealander, the referee awarded a draw. The decision was bndly received, a majority of the spectators favouring the New Zealander.
