ADDINCTON STOCK SALES.
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. There was a particularly heavy entry of fat cattle at the metropolitan weekly market at Addington yesterday, j, It totalled nearly 701) head and about e constituted a record for the yards. Na- j< turally, with this large yarding, which „ was a good deal iri excess of require- j moots, hist week's good prices were not j maintained, the drop on the average , amounting from £2 to £3 a head. There t was an average-sized entry of fat sheep, ten races being filled. The t demand for fat sheen was satisfactory. ( late rates being maintained practically s throughout. Nearly 300 spring lambs , were penned. With this number on t offer, juices came back more to a com- t moreial basis, and. at the lower level, j butchers bought freely. The sale of j store slice]) was inclined to be drag- - ging. and it was not as active as the . previous one. A large entry ol store ; cattle met with a good demand, for- , ! ward sorts especially being sought I after. There was not much life in tlie ( 1 dairy cattle sale. but. in a measure I this was due to the poor quality of , I most of the cows and heifers offered. 1 Vealers lit for butchers’ purposes, as j usual, sold well. J Saco tiers and porkers ' met with a brisk sale, and there was a ' much better demand for store jugs 1 than was the case last week. 1 Fat cattle—There was a marked de--1 dine in values, amounting in the case | of heavy steers to £3 a bead on late rates, and in the case of mediumweight bodies from £2 to £2 10s. Prices a hundred pounds were:—Rest beef 45s to 47s (id, prime 42s to 44s fid, medium quality 37s to 41s, heavy-weight 24 s to 37 fid, ordinary cow beef 31s to fills fid, and rough down to 27s Cd. The entry was made up mostly of good sorts. The sale ojiened at an advance on late rates, and this higher level was maintained throughout. Values wore:—Medium wcanors 12s to 15s, good woanors lfis to 225, small . slips Ms to 18s, good slips 18s fid to 23s fid, medium stores 25s to 325, large stores 33s to 37s fid, extra large stores to 425.
