The first electrically-driven shearing machines to he operated in Marlborough were set going recently (says the “Express”) by Mr. T). Bisliell at Caythorpe. Mr. Bishell, who is one of the oldest residents in Marlborough, has been quick to realise the advantage of electricity from the farmers point of view, and Caythorpe has been very thoroughly wired up with the view to the extensive use of the Waihopai scheme for power, heating and lighting purposes. It is interesting to note that' Mr Bisliell. when a member of the old tVair.au Bond Board, was one of the first public men in the province to advocate the introduction of hydroelectric power.
B\ TO TEN'S CONFERENCE. GENEVA, Oct. 12. Ti,O’/ regarding this lakeside city as the proper home for everything international. the annual conference-of the International Barmen's Association, is being held here. The delegates were surprised, however, to find two Americans present. The others promptly protested that it was incongruous that a dry country should send delegates who could not anywise he accepted as real barmen.- The difficulty was overcome by permitting the Americans to remain as official observers.
