MAGISTRATE’S COURT

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13th

(Before W. Meldrum, Esq., S.M.) LICENSING ACT. On charges of being unlawfully on licensed premises (Masonic Hotel) after hours two offenders were convicted, one being fined 20s and costs 10s and the other ordered to pay costs 10s.

On charges of procuring liquor while prohibited A. Ellis was fined 20s and costs 10s, and O. Pritchard was fined 20s and costs 10s. BOROUGH BYE-LAWS.

W. E. Gaylor. Borough inspector (Mr Park) charged Cecil McMaster with riding a motor cycle after dark in Revel 1 street. He was fined 5s and costs 20s Gel. SHOP AND OFFICES ACT. The Inspector of Factories (A. D. Sneddon) charged J. M. Mclntosh with keeping her shop open on the evening of the weekly lialf-holiday. A plea of guilty was made. Fined 20s and costs 15s. Same v. Ty Lee (Mr Sellers) a similar charge. Plaintiff gave evidence ot entering the shop and purchasing a packet of cigarettes. Fined 20s ami costs 15s. Same v. Ly Ting, a similar offence. Fined 20s and costs 15s. NATIVE GAME. J. Digby (Mr Park) v. F. Dennehy and W. Barrowman, charges of having possession of native game and shooting game, 2 black swans and 1 grey duck, at Matninui. Mr Elcock appeared for defendants, stating Barrowman had shot the birds and they had been hung up in Denneliy’s shed. Denneliy was fined 10s and costs 31s and Barrowman was fined £2 and costs 31s. Police v W. Glass and J. Glass, and John Sliivas, charges of shooting grey duck out of season at Lake Rotokino. Mr Park for tlie first two and M.r Elcock for tlie latter pleaded guilty, stating they were boys who did not know they were doing wrong. A fine of £5 and costs 10s was inflicted against each defendant. DEBT CASES. Hokitika Harbour Board (Mr Park) v. D. J. Ilillier, claim 10 s. Judgment for plaintiffs with costs 12s. ]■' Schroder and Co. (Mr Elcock) v. T. Murphy, claim £2 19s 7d. Judgment for plaintiff with costs £2, 2s Gd. Trade Auxiliary Coy. of N.Z. (Mr Elcock) v. F. Orr. Judgment summons £l4 0s 3d and costs 21s. Order made for payment forthwith in default 21 days.
