“I found a genuine desire on the part of many Australian business men to extend trade relations with New Zealand,” said Mr F. Goldberg, managing, director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Limited, who returned to Auckland from a business visit to Australia by the Mara inn. Mr Goldberg said there were several marketing schemes afoot in

the Commonwealth which would benefit both countries. Owing to the Lahour Party being a minority and the endowment scheme, which was detrimental to business houses, having been wiped out, tlie outlook bad considerably brightened. New Zealand could look forward to increased trade, especially from Australian manufacturing concerns.

A fine specimen of a sea leopard swam through the surf at Karekare on Monday afternoon, gazed at the pleasing outlook with mild eyes, and then stolled up on the beach. It was noticed by Miss Kathleen Farley, and bent on capture, Karekare residents turned out in force. The animal showed fight, and a disposition to return to the water as speedily as possible, but it was lassooed round the head and tail and then, in spite of its violent struggles, sledged to the hoarding-house, where it was accommodated in a stable for the night. The animal was accepted as a gift from Karekare residents for the Auckland Zoo, and yesterday it was brought l>v motor lorry to its new home, where it at once showed a fondness for fish and an inclination to settle down peacefully with the

other marine exhibits. The sea leopard is seven feet in length; and of n beautiful soft grey colour, interspersed with black spots. It is - a very rare l isitor to such a high latitude as Karekare and was evidently a wandered from colder seas.

By a fire on Monday evening Mr 0. Brazil’s well known homestead on the Cronadun Road, Reeflon. was completely destroyed. The fire was

first noticed by one of the little girls, who was in the sitting room and noticed flames under the dining room door. She at once called attention to it, and the door being opened, the room was found to be a raging inferno, and the occupants had to clear for safety. The only things saved

were some clothing and blankets, the flames having such a hold and the heat being so great, that the building could not be approached with any degree of safety, and it was burned right to the ground, even the piles being consumed right to the ground, fortunately there was no wind at the time, the night being quite calm, otherwise- nothing could have saved the outbuildings, which are somewhat extensive. A peculiar, feature about the outbreak was that the men had just returned from a fishing excursion and had passed through the dining room less than ten minutes previously, when there was neither asign nor any smell of fire. Ihe building was one of eight or ten rooms, built of black pine, and was one of the landmarks along the road, and most of it bad just been renovated. \yunderstand that the building was insured for £-100 in the State Office, and that there is a small amount on the contents.
