SWIMMING.
CHANNEL SWIM. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received this day at 9.30 a.in.) LONDON, Oct. 11. Mona MacLellan, who in private life is Dr Dorothy Cochrane, Of Harley Street, landed at Folkestone claiming that she had swam the Channel in eleven hours twenty minutes, a record for a woman, beating Miss Ederle’s time by three hours nineteen minutes. MacLallan gave up the attempt in September after being in the water for 25 hours and covering fifty miles. LONDON, Oct. 11.
Mac-Lella.u’s real name is Doctor Dorothy Logan. Sho left Grisnoa at 7.40 last night and arrived at Folkestone 8.52 this morning, official time, a woman’s record. Her success was a complete surprise. She was induced to the third attempt by Gleitze’s success. She admits she was discouraged in the early morning, when England appeared no nearer, but Iter trainer induced her to continue. This is the first time a Channel swimmer has landed as far west as Folkestone.
