CRICKET.

CRICKET IMPP ESSIOXS. AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. Among tiio passengers on the Aorango, which berthed to-day, was Mr I. H. Lowry, u. well-known agriculturist and racehorse owner, of Okawn, Hawke s Bay. whose son is captain of tho New Zealand cricketers. Pr Lowry, who has been holidaying in 'England and .Scotland, had the pleasure of seeing the Dominion representatives in several games against Strong county elevens and has nothing but praise for the pluck and skill "'hieh the Xew Zealanders displayed. “We have a pretty good team,” lie told a “Star” representative, “and I trink it turned out a, lot stronger in batting than might have been expected. There was no easing off by county sides. They played their hardest and the Xew Zealanders earned every run they got.” The splendid sportsmanship of British cricket crowds was also commented upon. The Dominion players had a fino reception everywhere. Had it not been for wretched weather they would have had a still better time on the field of play, but although several good matches were spoiled by the rain the visitors earned gulden opinions at Home. ;

Mr Lowry was naturally loth! to mention any one player in preference to others, hut could not help referring to the magnificent form of Dempster ami Blunt, and said that, the hitter’s century against Kent was a superlative effort. Air I j iwry had a s|«)iting vacation in Scotland and also saw typical English race meetings at Ascot and Newmarket. As a sportsman, however, lie was more interested in learning tho fate of liis promising two-voar-oltl Second Wind in the Welcome Stakes "at Ellerslio on Saturday than in discussing the Sport of Kings in the Old Country, lie had not purchased any blood stock. WELLINGTON. Oct, 10. The New Zealand Cricket Council has instructed its selectors to include four professionals ami those New Zealand players not required in the touring side, in the team to represent the Rest of New Zealand.

Local opinion is that the scope for New Zealand cricketers outside, tho touring team is far too limited, also gthat only the two professionals who have already played in New Zealand should he included; that the form of at least two members of the touring team does not warrant their inclusion in tho special matches.
