(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) BUSHMAN INJURED. INVERCARGILL, Oct. 0. A Inrhinnn named Wilkinson was •struck by a falling branch in the bush iit Stewart Island on Friday last and rendered unconscious. He was carried for several miles through the bush before a conveyance was secured to take him to the settlement at Half Moon Bay. A westerly gale was blowing, but the islanders manned a small coastal schooner, and at 7 p.m. started for the mainland. After a boisterous voyage they readied Bluff at TO p.m. Here tho injured man received medical attention, He was found to be suffering from concussion, and he is still unconscious. He is now in the Southland Hospital.
BOY’S PLUCKY ACT RECOGNISED .CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 10.
The directors of the Royal Hilmnne Society to-day decided to award a bronze medal to Rodney Thornhill Cooper, aged 12,‘0f New Brighton, for bravery in rescuing a child from drowning in - August-. By some means the child, who was unable to swim got into the river and was not. seen till ho was drowning. Cooper dived in fully clothed and brought him to- the beach, applied resuscitation methods and iho (-bird’s life was saved.
SHUNTER’S DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 10. “That blame is attachable to no one, death being due to paralysis of tho respiratory muscles and injuries to the hack, the result of a shunting accident on October 4th,” was the verdict of Coroner La wry, S.M., at the conclusion of the- inquest on the death of Leonard John Dayman today

Martin Codyr|, shunter, in evidence, detailed jtho shunting operations in which l|e war, engaged with Tlnyman. Two J waggons were being detached and Hay man loft him to attend to them, when Hayman did not return, he himself went to the trucks and was in the act of cutting them off when he heard a moan. Ilayman was found underneath, but clear of the lines. Hayman said he had slipped off the brake. "Witness thought ho had been lifting the brake and fell off the end oi' the brake bar. . No other evidence was , offering as to bow the aec-ideni occurred, and the Coroner returned a verdict a« above.
DRUNKEN DRIVER. AVANGANUr, Oct. 10. George Brook Carter, was fined £l2, and had his license cancelled in Court to-day for being drunk while in charge of a. car. He had collided with a cyclist- on the city bridge.
INTOXICATED MOTORIST. WELLINGTON. Oet. 10. For being intoxicated while in charge of a motor cycle and side car on Lnmbton Quay#bile yesterday afternoon, Sidney Mark Maskell, 24. was to-day fined £2O liy Air Salmon, S.M., and his license suspended for twelve months. ARBITRATION ACT. DUNEDIN, Oct, 10. At a meeting of the Prossers' and Cutters’ Union to-night, the following resolution was passed dealing with the Government’s proposed amendments to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act: “This Union enters an emphatic protest against the avowed intention of the Government to amend the I.C. and A. Act. out first consulting the Trade Unions in the matter. In the opinion oj this Union, the I.C. and A. Act, with he Court as at present constituted, has been a potent factor in maintaining industrial peace; therefore >t would he a grave mistake to create indust.ial strife at the instance of the Farmers Union, Employees’ Association, or Chamber of Commerce resolutions.
