with new customs tariff. Amidst the storm of criticism that has greeted the proposed alterations in the customs tariff, it is interesting to note that the drapers are apparently satisfied. The latest issue of the “New Zealand Draper and Clothier ” says it is gratifying to find that the amendments are in line with the recommendations of the Drapers’ Federation. Its further comments are .as follows: “Whatever difference of opinion there may he about individual items, it is willingly conceded that the revision has improved the tariff as a whole; not the least important feature being the plain statement of the Government’s objectives, and the outline of a policy, which gives promise of setting a standard for further revisions. That this policy meets wifli opposition from certain sections is only to bo expected.
