WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY. OCTOBER 10th
Tho Board met at 8 p.m. Present— Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), (b Davidson, ft. Heinz. A. Mohnrry, A. B. Spiers, W. Jeffries, E. A. Wells. M. Keenan, L. H. Morel, and T. W. Duff. Messrs Heinz, and Spiers, asked to he excused from attendance and withdrew, after the minutes had been confinned. The minutes were confirmed and outward < orrespondende approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Dr Valintine, Wellington, complimenting Board on Success of annual ball.—Received. From same, in connection with treatfent of patients suffering from senile decay.—Received.
From same stating .Minister approves Board leasing maternity home subject to Board considering possibility of certain structural alterations il desired.—Received. Tt was resolved to further enquire as to power fin purchasing the premises.
Mi' .Jeffries said the sub-committee on the subject had gone fully into the question and it: would he far better business for the Board to purchase the premises at £ll (50, instead .of paying a rental of £1 4s per week. In five years they would have paid in rent, more than the purchase price. The matter was left to the. .town members with power to act. From Dr F. Telford, Christchurch, advising two nurses were coining Over to enquire into maternity home question.—Received. From L. CL Fowler and If. 0. Grant, Christchurch, Agreeing to take over maternity home on terms as laid down by Board for one year and to arrange for a further period on terms to ho arranged.—Received. From National Provident Fund Board, notifying pension payable to a former employee.-- Received. Mr Davidson, moved that, a protest be made to tho Department against their failure to pay tho Full amount of pension considered due by the Board. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and carried. From Child Welfare Branch, Christchurch, in regard to admission oT a child from the district, and regretting inability to accept admission.— Received. From Kumara Borough Council forwarding levy due.—Received. From Competitions Society Mating arrangements were being made to supply concert for the patients.—Received and offer accepted with thanks. From Nurso A. Hamilton, resigning position as Matron of Westland Hospital and asking to lie relieved on December 28th.—Received and accepted with regret. Mr Duff moved that applications he invited for tho position. Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried. From .Miss A. L. .Tones, applying for annual leave.—Received and request granted. From M. A. Freitas, J. Murtlia. .1. Freitas, and X’. Rouse, applying for annual leave.—Received and request granted subject to arrangement by the Matron.
From W. 11. Gjhiiin, Tetalio, acknowledging letter from Board a reference to complaint.—Received.
From Mrs Paterson and Miss Holliday, joint secretaries of the Hospital Ball Committee notifying the receipts were £l3O 19s Id, expenses £2l IDs Id, leaving a net credit'balance of £lls. R.tedived. The Chairman moved that all concerned be thanked for the very splendid work done by the many helpers who had made such a great success of the annual function. Seconded by Mr Wells and carried. Air Jeffries moved that- a vote of thanks bo passed to the people of Kokatahi for their efforts in connection with the annual ball. Seconded by Air Wells and carried. REPORTS. ■From House Committee reporting on conditions at the hospital; recommending parking arrangements for car; and recommending various inciters for attention.—Received and
adopted. The Chairman of the House Committto also reported in reference to electric light system and damage done to the globes during the period, there being 209 lights in the institution.— Received.
From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting patients in Westland Hospital on Ist September, numbered 2G males, II females—37; admitted during September 22 males, 24 females—l 6: total treated 48 males, 35 females—B3; discharged cured 24 males, 12 females; relieved 2 males; died 1 male; total discharged 27 males, 12 females—39; remaining in hospital on 30th September, 21 males, 23 females—44; m hospital for two months 9 males, 8 females—l7.—Received. Accounts amounting .to £317 15s od were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported, receipts £l3lß. 2s; payments £lll7 Is; debit balance 2580 8s 9d.—Received. The half-yearly statement.of receipts and expenditure was laid on Hie table.—Received.
The list of outstanding maintenance accounts was received and considered and the Secretary was authorised to take action at once against, all those who had not made arrangement tor the liquidation of their indebtedness. The Board rose at 9.20 p.m.
