MAKARORA NOTES

The cricket season opened on Saturday with a scratch match. There was a small muster hut a good game was played. Messrs It. Ewing and T. Shoulders have returned from a tour of the Haast Pass. Rainy Flat is being turned over with tractor and plough for the first time. This is the highest flat in the valley to undergo modern farming. Pastures are in forward condition, especially the flats in the Haast Valley. The Otago deer cullers' commenced their contract at Makarora yesterday. The following are the successful applicants for stalking blocks in Otago (Lake Wahnka District) : _ . Block 15.—S. S. Jenkins arid friend. Block A. Stevens and party, Clyde. . Block 22.—C. F.
