The Competitions Concert Party will visit the Westland Hospital on Tuesday and render an entertainment for the benefit of the inmates.

The firm of Higgins A Fawcct Bros. Ltd. of Kokatahi has been registered as a private company ns from the 3rd. inst. The partners are: P. J. Higgins, 1000 shares; C. F. H. Fawcet, 1000 shares; G. W. Fawcet, 1000 shares. The objects of the Company includes the taking over of the business at Kokatahi of Higgins and Fawcet Bros, sawmill trading and general. Messrs Park and Murdoch are the solicitors for the new company.

There was n good attendance at the Soldiers’ Hall last evening for the weekly euchre tournament. The prize winners on the evening’s play were: Mrs Sumner, Mr Sumner, Mrs Roberts, Mr Edwards, Mr Holling, Mrs Herring, Mrs-Bakin, Mrs Fitzgerald. During supper it was announced that next Friday’s play would complete the tournament competition, and the aggregate prizes would he presented the following Friday. The season will dose this month in view of daylight saving coming into force next month.

The decision of the Government to withdraw the posting of telegraphic shipping news at post offices was adversely commented on in the House of Representatives by Mr C. E. Bellringer (Taranaki), who gave notice of his intention to ask for the reasons which have led to the decision which, lie said, would deprive the public of a valuable service which they had enjoyed for over 30 years. A press telegram from Westport states that keen disappointment is expressed there over the Government’s decision to abandon the practice of posting up shipping movements. A public meeting is urged to voice the community’s disapproval.
