Freitas, the West Coaster, has been passed over will doubtless cause some disappointment to followers of the game, who have picked him out as a likely man. Freitas is unlucky. Though a hit on the “green” side, ho is undoubtedly a good forward.

PLANS FOR TOUR. AVELLINGTON, Oct. 5.

Private advice from Capetown states that the South African Rugby Board’s possible itinerary for tlie New Zealand team provides for tests at Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Capetown. Other matches will lie at Maritzlmrg, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Kimberley (two matches), Capetown (three matches), Poteliefstroom, Johannesburg, Kroonstad, Bloemfontein, Afival North, East London, King AVilliam’s Town. Oudtslioorii, and possibly another in Rhodesia.

The Lour as provisionally mapped out suggests a considerable amount of travelling, but an informant states that the New Zealanders will enjoy every day juf it, though one long journey with a few breaks will be of several days’ duration. Provision is made lor over one week’s stay in both Johannesburg and Capetown. The team plays seven or eight, matches before the first test.

AVAIRATAHS AVTN. LONDON, Oct. 0. New South AVales Rugby team beat Midlands by IG—l2. The match was played in glorious sunshine. The AVaratal.s display in the first spell was the worst of the tour. They were hopelessly beaten im hooking, their passing was hurried and defence shaky. The Counties should have piled up a large score. They were leading at the interval. The AVaratalis improved in the second half and had more of the ball, which they handled better, Lawton setting the backs morings more successfully than the opposing half.
