THE PIDDINGTON CASE

COMPLETE EXONER ATI ON. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 4. The Piddington Commission report says: “There is nothing in the “ Herald’s ” article on the statements of Mr Allen, of the Graziers’ Association, that could be taken by any rea-sonable-minded man to reflect upon the personal rectitude of Mr Picldington, and full consideration of them satisfied the Commission beyond all reasonable doubt, that Mr Picldington is not only an able but an upright judge when discharging his judicial duties, and an able and upright officer of the Crown, when discharging the duties of a legislative or administrative character. The report concluded that nothing was elicited in the course of the enquire which could in any sense.be taken as a reflection upon his integrity.

A MINORITY REPORT. (Received this day at H.O a.m.l SYDNEY, Oct. 6. The Chairman of the Picldington Commission, Mr Justice Edmunds, in a minority report, says the Commission is in full accord regarding the integrity of Air Picldington, hut he dissented from his brother Commissioners refunding the interpretation of certain points of the 1927 Act. The report contains a statement from which Mr Edmunds dissented, that in determining the living wage at £4 ss. The Industrial Commission acted upon a wrong principle, nnd exceeded the powers conferred upon it by the amending legislation of 1927.
