For the Land wick races the going was heavy and the attendance thirtytwo thousand, The racing was marred by a hurdle fatality, Coster ridden by AlcKinnon, fell. When the jockey was picked up it was found he was dead. He sustained a fracture and dislocation of the neck. The horse was badly injured and had to bo destroyed. Second Hurdles—Castles 1, Piratic 2, Jurisprudence 3. Nine started, incuding Asleep and Passin’ Through. Won by four lengths. Time 4.36}. Craven Plate—Limerick (McCarten) 8.11 1; Winalot (Davidson) 7.11 2; Black Duchess (Brown) 7.G 3. Piuthnir I (Mnnson) 8.13 was the only other starter. Black Duchess went to the front attended by Winalot. Limerick went after the leaders approaching the turn in the straight, and assumed coin- j maml at the distance. McCarten was content to win in a leisurely manner, [ but a last minute dash by Winalot no- | eessitated another spurt by Limerick who won bv a length. Time 2.121.
