GOATS AS AN ATTRACTION.
“I have seen the Melbourne Cup run, hut I have never seen anything which caused so much excitement ns the goat races,” remarked Mr. R. T). Knight at a meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, when giving some of his impressions of the recent Royal Show at Brisbane. These goat races said Mr. Knight, were regarded as one of the main events of the show. All the goats were harnessed to small sulkies, and were driven in every case by boys. One champion goat came all the way •from Rockhampton, some hundreds of miles away, in order to compete in the races at Brisbane. There were many bookmakers in attendance, totalling approximately 30, and betting was brisk. Unfortunately for bis backers, however, the champion billygoat from Rockhampton was defeated, resulting in those gentlemen losing heavily. “It would he a good idea for this association to inaugurate these races,” remarked Mr. Kuiglii. “if you could get some goats broken in.”
