HOKITIKA LIBRARY COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting was held at the Library last evening. Present: Messrs D. J. Evans (.Chairman), J. Maloney, T. TV. Duff, J. Niven and Dr Tcichelmann. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. J N WAR D' CORRESPONDENCE. From publisher “Jacobite,” forwarding copy of the publication from Wellington.—Received. From Isitt, Ltd., Christchurch, supplying particulars of late publications, and completing binding of Dickens’ works.—Received. It was reported an excellent finish had been given to the books. From Internal Affairs Department, promising to consider the matter of supplying Government papers of interest to the Library.—-Received. From D. S. Clay, Hnrihari, on behalf of local subscribers, agreeing to take up the country circulation proposal.—Received. It was reported the first box of books was being sent down this week.

From M lies Department, granting £5 for the purchase of approved books of use to readers in a mining district. —Received and accepted with thanks; list to be supplied. From Town Clerk, forwarding copy of publication relating to Thames Jubilee.—Received with thanks. From Dymocks Ltd, Sydney, forwarding particulars of magazines.— Received. GENERAL. The audited statement of accounts was received and laid on the table. Accounts to the amount of £29 2s 6d were passed for payment. The Chairman donated a volume of sketches by the late Chas. 15. Douglas, of mountain peaks, rivers and bays of AVestland.—Received and gift appreciated with vote of thanks .

Mr Niven reported Master Hayward had handed in to the Museum specimens of Australian snakes.—Received with thanks. The Chairman complimented. Mr Niven on the appearance of the .Museum. It was resolved to obtain quotations for additional glass cases.
