CONCERT AT MENTAL HOSPITAL
Tho Competitions concert party visited the Alental Hospital last evening and gave a pleasing entertainment to the inmates and staff, who were assembled in a commodious room at “Te Alare.” Through the kindness of Air AV. Newman, of Newmans Motors, Ltd., the large party was motored to and from the institution. Dr Buchanan and staff received the party on arrival, and everything was found in excellent order. A suitable stage and other accessories were provided, enabling the concert to pass olf in excellent order. Miss Daly was the musical director and had arranged a pleasing programme which was rendered as follows: — Pianoforte trio, Aliss AL Houlahan, AI. Paget and E. Carroll; vocal duet, “Slowly and Softly Alusic Should Flow,” Airs Findlay and Miss Sheriff ; humorous recitation, “The Bald-headed Man,” Alollie McGavin; violin solo, “Alinuet,” Jean Dowell; vocal solo. “Awake,” Airs Turnbull : recitation, “Infant Prodigies,” Aliss Yeale; pianoforte duet, Alisscs Jacobs; solo, “Alorning” Aliss Aforris; recitation or monologue, “The Last Half Hour.’ Noelino Wormingtou; Irish Jig, limaTullocli; solo, “L'ackaday,” Af. Hnnralinn ; violin duet, P. and E. Crough, solo, “The Garden of To-morrow,” Pearl Dowell; recitation in character, “Blackpool,” Joy Ward; recitation. “Domestic Asides,” \ iolet Boss, song, “Fairies in the Garden,” Cora Lymi ; violin solo, Air J- Ackers; recitation in character. “The Tramp,” Pat McGavin ; vocal solo, “Betty’s Garden,” Aliss SherrifT; recitation, “The Little Light,” D. Hughes; pianoforte trio, Misses P■ and E. Carroll and I Wright; National Anthem. All the items were well received. Before the final number Air Evans acknowledged the excellent reception given and thanked tho staff for the very pleasing reception accorded. The visit had been a pleasant one in every way and it ’.was hoped to repeat it before Christmas. l>r Buchanan thanked the conceit party for the visit which was most acceptable to them all. He was glad of the interest displayed, and felt suri such visits would do good. The party was welcome to return at any time on a similar mission, and would always he greeted with enthusiasm. They had given a. most excellent concert. Hearty cheers were given for the concert party. Subsequently supper was served, Alatron Alays being hostess, and after expressing thanks for the hospitality extended, the party returned to town at 9 o’clock.
