The Forty-seventh Convention ol the American Federation of Labour under President Green has opened at Los Angeles. Outstanding interest is contained in the report of the executive council, which advocates a return to beer, and the introduction of a five day week. In three conventions labour had pointed out deplorable conditions which had come from the enforcement of the Volstead Act. A) e contended that 2.75 per cent of beer would bring about true temperance, says the executive which declares the conditions are steadily growing worse. Wholesome l>eer could be introduced, without interfering with the eighteenth. amendment.
