YIOLENT STORM. BRISBANE, Oct. 3. The most violent storm experienced for many years, broke over Brisbane at the week-end. Much damage was done at Windsor and Albion where warehouses were unroofed. A FIRE. BRISBANE, Oct-. 3. A fire at Maryborough destroyed a large building occupied by Denham’s Ltd. as a bulk store, containing chaff| and other products. Several explosions occurred among compresed air cylinders stored on the. premises. Huge pieces of molten metal were thrown in all directions. One six-foot cylinder was thrown 300 yards over two blocks of houses. Another was hurled into a house across the street. A woman was severely injured, and many windows In the vicinity were broken. The damage amounts to several thousand pounds sterling.

W ESTR ALLAN DECTS I ON. PERTH, Oct. 3. The Soldiers’ League have been notified by the Government that it is not prepared to declare Anzac Day a sacred day, equal to Christmas Day and Good Friday or that it should be observed as a paid holiday bv all workers.

ELECTION RALLY. SYDNEY, Oct. 3. The final Labour pre-election rally was held to-day. A huge procession beaded by -Messrs Lang and Charlton marched through the city streets to the Domain, where it was addressed by Labour leaders. Speeches were amplified by loud speakers to enable the great crowds to bear.

SOLOMON ISLAND MURDER. SYDNEY, Oct. 3. Lynch (Manager of a plantation in Solomon Islands) lias arrived. He reported that in revenge for a l/eating bo received, a native attacked J. h.
