SAMOA COMMISSION

(Special to Press Association by Radio.) APIA,.Sept. 29. The Commission continued. ./> Mr Baxter, Counsel for the Citizens’ Committee wished to re-examine Guar, regarding his dismissal at Pago Pago, but Sir Charles Skerrett said, in view of the unqualified admission by Guar, of the truth of the American Covernor’s statements concerning malfeasancc in office, it was useless for Air Baxter to re-open the matter. Arthur Williams (Alemlicr of the Legislative Council), thought the natives should be put on that Council, and personally lie would like to see a majority of the members elected. Ninety-five per cent, of the people and all responsible natives wore spoken to. and they requested it. He knew his scheme was utterly inconsistent with the mandate.

George Westbrook (Legislative Councillor) thought two members should he Samoans elected by heads of families. Alatati Faasnmoa, after n consultation with High Chiefs, Williams, a Legislative Councillor, withdrew some of his strictures in the report on the Somnai Hospital Department, and admitted some of his figures were incorrect. He undertook to assure Samoans of the good work of the Department in treatment of yams, as testified by Doctor Buxton of London School of Medicine. Witness also gave evidence of the birth and development of tho Alan (Samoa League), and said, the League’s intentions wore purely peaceful.
