FOOTBALL,

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. NORTH ISLAND TEST. PALAIERSTON N., Sept. 27. The Rugby trial game between tlie North Island Possibles and Probables produced a fairly high standard today, although the forwards rather dominated the game. There were many flashes of scintillating open play, relieving the battle between the scrummages. The only alteration from the original team was when S’tringfellow replaced Johnston (Taranaki), who was injured in the second spell. The teams were evenly matched in both divisions, and the final scores were indicative of their respective merits. There were weaknesses in the inside hacks of both teams, which were responsible for the spoiling ol many promising movements. The first spell ended 10 to G in favour of the Probables, while the final score was 19 to 18 in favour of the Possibles. For the winners, Rushbrook scored two tries, and Af. Brownlie and Swain scored one try each. Nicholls kicked a penalty, and converted a try, and Grenside converted one try. For the Probables, Hook scored two tries, and Sheen and Thomas scored one try each. Bcrridgo converted throo of the tries.
