CONTROL OF LAKE KANIERI.

Yesterday a sub-committee from the Hokitika Borough Council, consisting of the Alayor (Mr G. Perry), Dr Teichelmann and Alessrs Jeffries, Duff and Evans met the Commissioner of Lands (Air Alorjietli) relative to the control of Lake Ivanieri, the source of the water supply for the Hokitika Borough. Air Alorpeth explained as a member of the Scenery Preservation Board that' it was desired by the Board the local Council should make some pronouncement as to the control of the lake waters. A' general discussion ensued, and a.s an outcome of same, the following general proposals were agreed to ns a basis upon which regulations might he drafted by the Board :

1. Prohibiting bathing within half a mile of the intake of the water supply. It was suggested tho Sunny Bight and Hans Bay beaches wore the most suitable locations for bathing. 2. That the Government Department control all buildings and erections round the .shores of the lake. 3. That periodical inspections of the shores and all buildings lie made by the lion, caretaker of the Scenery Preservation Board (Air J. Cantrick). 4. That a penalty he enforced for throwing refuse into the lake. 5. That all applications for use of motor boats on the lake he submitted to the Borough Council for report, and restrictions lie enforced preventing motoring manoeuvres in the vicinity of the Borough water supply. G. That the location for . boat sheds he fixed in Hans Bay and Sunny Bight where areas be available for selection by licensees the design and material for the buildings to l>e approved. Present erections on the margin of the lake to ho removed within a reasonable t i me. The suggestions on the linos above mentioned will now he referred to the Scenery Preservation Board for further action.
