The Tnangalniu Sub-Union wrote asking in reference to alterations to the primary schools shield rules.— Received It was resolved the Manager of Saturday's team confer on the subject. Il was resolved to enquire from the W.C.R.r. as to I he, whereabouts of the school football grants.
The final of the junior knock-out competition Kokatahi v. Excelsior A. was set down for Cass Square on Saturday next. Oct. Ist. at 3 p.m. Referee. Mr AY. Kearns. The winners to hold the Breeze Shield for the year. The United Thirds (Grey) v. Excelsior Thirds was also set down for Saturday on Cass Square at 3 o’clock. Arrangements for the Dittman Shield match at Reefton were approved, the team to leave Hokitika at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday from Newmans Alot-u-s Ltd. Garage. Mr F. McGregor to he manager and Air Devaney to he captain.
WESTPORT v. HOKITIKA. (Westport News). On Saturday at AYestport a school match. Westport Technical v. Hokitika District High took place, when the Hokitika team won their match by 8 to nil. after n very keen game. The pla.v was even more then the scores indicate The visitors had the better of the first spell, when they had the advantage- of the wind, hut the Technical had most decidedly the ■ bettor of the second, when Hokitika only once seriously menaced the line of the local team. The handling of the hull by the visiting hacks was better than that of the local lads, hut AYestport forwards, though not as hotly as the visitors more ihnn held their own with I hem.
Tn the opening stages Richards made a good run. hut lost a scoring chance near Westport's line. Then Hamilton was tackled by Nesbitt inst on Westport's line. O’Connor, however, getting nosscssion behind the scrum, cut his way through Wostjxirt hacks to score a good try which Hamilton just failed to convert. The same player, a little later had a free at goal, from a good distance and narrowly missed scoring. After some hard play, in which Hokitika hacks outshone Westport’s. hut Weslporf forwards more than held their own with the visiting pack, Hamilton put Westport on the defensive. Hokitika were driven hack, hut King, a hefty lad. running right through AYestport hacks, scored a wellmerited try. which Hamilton converted. making the score at half time: Hokitika S, AYestport 0.
In the second spell, Neal made a fine break away and kicked over towards the goal, luif his supports were not up quick enough lo make use of the opening thus given them and Hokitika saved. Westport penned ihe visitors down on their line, and fitrnchnn got possession and dived for the line just falling short of a score. Larson .gathered and was held up when a score seemed certain. Then Hokitika shifted play up field. Heinz, n clover little player, got away and made a fine run, to he grassed hv Nesbitt just a foot or two short of Westport’s lino. Westport removed play hack to Hokitika’s line, hut the defence held sound and stalled off several efforts by “Westport backs and forwards to score. The visitors cleared their lines and worked un-field again, but were driven book. However, the whistle sounded with the score unaltered, Hokitika winning by 8 points to 0. Of the visitors, Heinz. O'Connor, 11. King, Hamilton and Parkill were the pick, while outstanding players for Westport were Nesbitt. Langrisli. Neale. Robertson, Larsen and Fairley. Dir C. Walker was referee.

A comic incident brought to an abrupt conclusion a marriage ceremony which was taken place yesterday at the town hall of itoqiieville. in the department of Seino-lnferioine. A middle aged couple had arived for the ceremony when a women, who had been formerly engaged to the bridegroom, appeared oil the scene and threatened to shoot the bride il the marriage took place. Ihe Mayor pacified her proceeding with the ceremony but as be was pitting to the bridegroon this question : “ Do you consent to take this women a.syonr wedded wife?” the man hesitated and asked: “Air. Mayor, what would you do in my position ?” The wedding, party burst out laughing. The mayor repeated his question, hut the bridegroom shouted on the top of his voice: “Decidedly, no!” He then left the building and joined his former fiancee. The abandoned bride now threatens to sue him fo breach of promise.
