FOOTBALL.
EXCELSIOR V. STARS. This senior game played on Cass Square on Saturday afternoon was robbed of all interest by Stars being only able to field 12 men and some ot them juniors. The game was played in jtwo very short spells and Excelsiors won by 11 to 3. For Excelsiors tries were scored by Staines. Nightingale and Christiansen, one being converted by White. For Stars, Stevens kicked a penalty goal.
EXCELSIOR A. V. RIMU. This junior game proved oi decided interst and resulted in a win lor Excelsiors by 8 points (two tries, one being converted) to G points (a try and a penalty goal). In the first half Excelsiors scored a try well out, Hughes touching down and Stevenson converted with a fine kick and later the same player scored again, while O’Connor kicked a penalty goal. In the second half Excelsiors were having the best of the play till a Riinu rush saw Willoughby score a good try. Play then livened up and at times it was of a roughened nature the tackling being very willing. A few minutes to go saw Excelsiors attacking and they had two easy shots right in front without success. lhe game was interesting but not of a very high class, a greasy ball proving too much of a handicap for most of the players. In the first ten minutes Willoughby, a Rimu forward had to leave the field with a broken collar bone, while there were several other minor injuries received. Air Kearns was referee. This leaves Excelsior A. to play Kokatahi next Saturday to decide which team shall hold the Breeze •Shield for the year.
MAGPIES V. KANTKRI. There was a poor game at Greymoutli, ALagpies defeating Kanievi by 23 to 5. Kanieri fielded only 12 men, and were never in the hunt, the game being a very uninteresting one. For Kanieri Nutting scored a try that George converted. Alagpics scored tries by Mayo, Ferguson (2), Sneddon, Gibbons two being converted, Clarke also potting a goal. _ The final of the senior competition now lies between Excelsiors and Knn-

Smashing forward play bv the Wnirarapa pack allowed their backs, of whom Cooke was the star performer to function with great dash. NOTED PLAYER INJURED. PALMERSTON N-, Sept. 25. Jacobs, the Horowhenua captain, sustained serious injuries in the final of the Nash Cup at Levin on Saturday. He was removed to Palmerston North Hospital early this morning, and was operated on for a ruptured spleen. He fell on the elbow or another player early in the game, but continued to play, although sick. He is reported to be doing fairly well.
MANAWATU FINAL. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 25. In tlie final of the Rugby knock-out competition on Saturday, Kin Ton defeated Old Boys by 11—3. N. OTAGO v. S. CANTERBURY. OAAIAR.U, Sept. 25. The final Rugby game of the season between South Canterbury and North Otago at AVaimate, resulted in an easy win for the latter by 22—0, leaving the rivals a win each and draw on three games played.

The All Black trial between North Otago, Otago and Southland Combined and Canterbury, Ashburton and South Canterbury Combined, was played at Carisbrook to-day in fine weather, the ground being in good order. The attendance was about 10,000. The southerners showed to advantage until Strang took a mark and gonled from forty yards out. Steel next scored for Canterbury. Strang failed to convert. Lindsay then started a movement which enabled Alarslin to score behind the posts for the southerners, and Lindsay converted.
A strong Canterbury rush enabled Burrows to touch down, and-Liiburne converted. Liiburne was caught in. front ol tTTs posts, and Bird picked up and dived over to score. Lindsay converted. Half-time was called with the scores: Canterbury Combined 11 ; Otago Combined 10. Otago opened the second spell with a try by G. Marslin, two minutes after the start, Lindsay converting.
Passing by Canterbury backs enabled Strang to score behind the posts for Liiburne to convert. Stoel y next scored at the corner. Then a' penalty goal by Lindsay made the (scores Canterbury lf>, Otago 18. A beautiful potted goal by Heazlewood put Otago in the lead. Then, a try by Scrimshaw, converted by Strang, gave Canterbury a two points lead. Itobilliard (wing) added another three points with a try, and Alley next touched down. A great dash by McClymont brought a try to Otago. The final score was: Canterbury Combined 30. Otago Combined 25. AUCKLAND, Sept. 2-1. An All Black trial match was played hero to-ddv between teams representing Auckland and North Auckland Combined and Waikato. Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley and King Country. The game resulted in a draw, each side scoring eight points. Heavy rain had made the ground in ah exceptionally heavy state, and good back play was impossible. . • .
